Important Notice for Applicants | Visa Application Guidelines (Pursuant to Article 9)

Dear applicants in the Guangzhou jurisdiction:

Please strictly comply with the following requirements. Pursuant to Article 9 of the applicable visa regulations, the following rules must be observed when submitting a Schengen visa application:

I. Deadline for Submission of Applications

Applications shall be submitted no earlier than 6 months before the planned start of the visit; for seafarers in the performance of their duties, no earlier than 9 months before the planned start of the visit.

As a general rule, applications must be submitted no later than 15 calendar days before the planned start of the visit.

Only in individual exceptional cases of duly justified urgency may the consulate or central competent authority allow applications to be submitted later than 15 calendar days before the planned start of the visit.

II. Appointment Arrangements

Applicants may be required to obtain an appointment before submitting their application.

As a general rule, the appointment should take place within two weeks from the date on which the application is lodged.

Please note: an application may only be accepted if the planned departure date is more than 15 calendar days after the date of submission of the application.

Appointment slots will open 14 days after booking, so that applicants can arrange their submission accordingly.

Any request for an exception must be approved in advance by the Consulate General of Spain in Guangzhou before it can be accepted.

Applicants are advised to plan their travel and submit their applications in advance in accordance with the above guidelines to avoid any inconvenience.

As per the latest notice from the Consulate General of Spain in Guangzhou, from April 15th, 2025, applicants whose place of household registration is Guizhou and Yunnan provinces and those whose place of household registration is beyond Guangzhou Jurisdiction (Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Fujian and Hainan provinces) and applicants with residence permits issued by Guizhou and Yunnan provinces are requested to go to the Spain Visa Application Centers in Chongqing, Chengdu and Kunming for the application submission. Thank you for the understanding."

Please note that only the HUKOU and Card of Residence Permit instead of social security card will be accepted as certificate of residence in for applicants living in the Guangzhou jurisdiction (Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hainan, Hunan) for the application of Schengen Visa since 11th, July 2024.

- EU family members have the right to go directly to the Consulate/Embassy to manage their visa application.
1. Important information for the applicants of Beijing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Shenyang, Chongqing, Jinan & Wuhan visa application center
2. For the minor applicants, the notarial kinship certificate and guardianship certificate authorized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs should be submitted whether the minor applicants travel with one of their parents or both of their parents."
